 NZC Guides Senior Secondary

New Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum Guides

Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related, but they use different ways of thinking and solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world.

Mathematicians and statisticians use symbols, graphs, and diagrams to help them find and communicate patterns and relationships, and they create models to represent both real-life and hypothetical situations. These situations are drawn from a wide range of social, cultural, scientific, technological, health, environmental, and economic contexts.

See Mathematics and statistics in the New Zealand Curriculum online.

New Social Science Curriculum Guides

The Social Sciences section of the Senior Secondary Curriculum Guides now features revised curriculum guides for classical studies, education for sustainability, history and media studies. Check them out at: http://seniorsecondary.tki.org.nz/Social-sciences. New versions of all other social sciences are underway, awaiting review, and they will be on the site soon. This work has been undertaken by teachers and subject teacher associations in conjunction with the Ministry of Education - to support the implementation of The New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA alignment.
