The Copyright Act has been amended

On 1st September 2011 an amendment to the Copyright Act (1994) came into effect. It’s called the Copyright (infringing file sharing) Amendment Act. You can read the act in full here.

The Act provides rights owners with a new method of taking enforcement action against people who infringe their copyright through file sharing. This means the upload or download resources that are protected by copyright, specifically via file sharing technologies like peer-to-peer (P2P) networks.

Advice and guidance for schools

The Ministry of Education funds Netsafe Incorporated to provide free, independent advice and guidance to New Zealand schools concerning cybersafety issues. Netsafe will be working directly with schools that have concerns or questions about the Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Act, and is also providing information on the NetSafe website.

Netsafe can also be contacted directly at: 0508NETSAFE (0508 638 723) and queries@netsafe.org.nz

Ako in action: school leaders talk about their learning

In this series of  digital stories eight New Zealand school leaders talk about how they have connected the learning they undertook in three Ministry-funded professional learning programmes to their professional practice.

Rangiatea: case studies and exemplars

These case studies and exemplars show how five secondary schools are focusing on realising Maori student potential.
The case studies look at the strategies used by the school leadership teams, and report on key factors that are contributing towards lifting Maori student achievement in their schools. The exemplars step through how a particular programme has been used successfully in each school.

CERA photography competition

Recovery of greater Christchurch photography competition

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) is inviting all schools - primary, intermediate and secondary - in greater Christchurch to take part in a photography competition. Schools are asked to submit photographs that reflect their students' visions of recovery - what greater Christchurch will be like in the future.

Digistore login process has changed

Digistore is now accessed with your Education Sector Logon, as part of TKI's 'single sign on' system. This means that, once you have mapped your account, you will be automatically logged in to Digistore as long as you are logged in at the TKI bar.

Using evidence for learning

To support the ongoing cycle of inquiry which is considered central to educational improvement, Assessment Online has developed a new section to assist educators at every level of the system to use evidence to leverage teaching and learning.

The interactive resources give advice and information on collecting evidence, working with data, reading and analysing data and target setting. There is also a section which explains in simple terms the statistical concepts that are a necessary part of assessment literacy. We welcome feedback.

As always feel free to call us (0800 858 525) or email us help@tki.org.nz if you have any queries, we are only a phonecall away and are happy to help.
