Digistore - What's new?

Gavin Bishop and Māori myths

Riding The Waves: Four Māori Myths: Hatupatu and the Bird Woman

Bishop uses Māori koru symbols to represent hope, and feelings of fear and tranquility are achieved by his use of colour and scale. He uses contrasting coloured inks to describe the bush and the bird woman.

Taming The Sun: Four Māori Myths: Kahu and the Taniwha

This image, pictured right, illustrates the myth of Kahu and the Taniwha found in Māori culture. Bishop illustrates the dramatic closing scene where Kahu is running away down the mountain trying to lead the taniwha into a trap.

Counting the stars: Four Māori Myths: Mother Earth and Father Sky

These two illustrations are from the picture book Counting The Stars: Four Māori Myths. They show the mythological character of Tanemahuta (god of the forest) from the story of Mother Earth and Father Sky, the first of four Māori myths in the book.

Using digital content: wiki update

Accessing Digistore page

For most users, Digistore is now accessed with an Education Sector Logon (ESAA) linked to a Digistore account as part of TKI's 'single sign on' system. To help support teachers in going through the initial set up process, a new page has been added to the Digistore wiki that shows screenshots of each step. There is also information on this page about the student logins that are available for each school. Please get in touch with one of the Digi Advisors if you would like further assistance.

Māori  catalogue

There is a considerable body of content in Digistore that is either written in Māori or is related to the Māori tikanga. A catalogue has been developed that helps to highlight this content for New Zealand teachers (both Māori and English medium) and this is available on the wiki. Note that this is still a work in progress so will continue to be added to over the course of the year.

Understanding figurative language helps to improve the quality of students’ writing. This learning path takes students through a range of activities using presentations, YouTube videos and learning objects from Digistore to help students learn about different types of figurative language. This learning path has been designed for upper primary and secondary students.

New Zealand digital collection

Perceptions of childhood collection - Learning path including teachers' notes

This collection of digital resources explores the perceptions of childhood within New Zealand society. The collection comprises a range of public records in both film and poster format that focus on New Zealand children in a wide range of situations: as immigrants, at school, during ill health and during their leisure-time. Frequently asked questions

How do my students access Digistore content? Students can access Digistore content in two ways:

  • Teachers design learning paths within their own login and provide students a link or the PIN number to take them to that learning path. Students won’t need a password to open any of the activities in the learning path. To learn more about learning paths, visit the learning paths page
  • Teachers give students the school’s student login details or use the student login to log the classroom computers into Digistore at the start of the day. If the browser is left open after logging in, students can then click on bookmarked content from Digistore to access it.  Each school has a unique student login. Schools can write to digistore@tki.org.nz to request a login.
